Caring Communities’ mission-critical programs and products include: the World of Possibilities Disabilities Expo, the largest event of its kind in the Mid-Atlantic Region; Respite Cares, Caring Campus and Caring Teens online respite care training program; the Caring Network online respite registry; local in-person respite care training;World of Possibilities Lifestyle Disabilities Magazines; and the About Our Family respite care workbook. Our training, education, publications, and events improve the quality of life for children and adults regardless of the nature or severity of the disability to help them achieve economic self-sufficiency and promote inclusion to enjoy full participation in society. Caring Communities has now grown into a well-known and widely respected service organization offering disability-related activities and events for thousands within the entire disabilities community in MD, DC and Virginia. Fundraising activities include Charm City Countdown New Years Eve Charity Gala, and Storybook Princess Events.Position OverviewThe Disability Services Intern will support program operations, outreach efforts, event planning, and client services. This role is ideal for students or emerging professionals interested in disability rights, social work, marketing, nonprofit management, communications, education and special education, nursing, occupational therapy, physical therapy, public policy or public health. Interns will gain a comprehensive view of our organization which serves the disabilities community through our training, education, publications, and events.QualificationsRequired: • Interest in our specific cause or mission.• Strong written, oral communication, and organizational skills.• Ability to work independently and collaboratively.• Access to a personal computer and reliable internet connection.Preferred: • Proficiency with word processing and spreadsheet programs• Familiarity with major social media platforms and ability to post reels, stories, etc on a weekly basis• Proficiency in languages other than English• Familiarity with the disabilities field• Research skillsKey Internship ResponsibilitiesThe following Internship Responsibilities reflect all area needs of Caring Communities. We welcome interns with a variety of interests to customize their internship experience in order to enhance their skills while allowing them to contribute directly to our mission and help us make a meaningful difference in the lives of those in the disabilities community.Program Support• Assist with planning, coordinating, and supporting the World of Possibilities Disabilities Expo, Disabilities Magazine, Respite Care Training, Caring Network Respite registry website, fundraising efforts and events.• Help maintain program materials, databases, and participant records.• Establish database of grant RFPs and other funding opportunitiesMarketing and Outreach• Develop new markets for existing products and programs• Assist with the development of educational materials.• Participate in community outreach and relationship-building with partner organizations.Communications/Social Media• Social Media Campaign: draft social media posts, develop schedule of regular instagram postings about programs and upcoming events, develop TikTok presence for the Expo and other events, reels and Facebook posts• Newsletters, and website updates, blog posts• Help create accessible communication materials (e.g., alt text, captions, plain language versions).• Support storytelling and documentation of client success stories, with consent.• Post on all disability organizations on Facebook• Post disabilities expo on calendar of events, radio, TV, anywhere freeAdministrative Support• Assist with scheduling, data entry, and organizational tasks.• Support grant reporting by gathering program metrics or participant feedback.• Attend staff meetings, take notes, and contribute ideas.• Contribute to existing database with additional entries and categories, such as increasing the list of colleges’ disabilities departments, durable medical equipment vendors, lists of religious entities, rural and hard to reach organizations, special education schools, etc• Convert About Our Family PDF to Spanish or other languages ...
